Why I Teach

I’ve been teaching since I was little - I mean REALLY little. At that time, the most pleasurable way for me to get through a weekend chore was to pretend I was demonstrating how to clean a window, sweep a floor, tidy a drawer. My favorite game to play was school. And my whole career as a student has been in the study not only of the material I was learning, but of HOW the material was presented.

I learned early on, that there were very few instructors who enjoyed what they were doing (especially if their students were children) and I also learned later on, that teaching in an environment of stress and pressure was an unnecessary component to learning. I took my scars and healed them by becoming the instructor I always wish I had, by learning to listen, to give constructive feedback, and trust the powerful intuitive hits I was getting between the energy exchanges in my classrooms.

My classroom revolves around self awareness through creativity and includes real live audiences all over the world - on line and in person. I’ve been a professional calligraphy instructor since 1997, and have learned to love the questions more than the answers.

Think of a circle. The content created for each class is at the center of the classroom and we (myself included) sit around it in collaborative discussion to create something new - a unique experience that will set us all on the path we need to step into next.

Most classrooms are set up like a triangle: the wisest (instructor) is at the top of the pyramid, with all the power and the most important vote and voice, while the masses sit underneath looking for handouts, hungry for instruction. This formula sometimes works, but at its worst and when abused, causes insecurity and damage because there is an unequal power dynamic (and not the fun kind)!

I find the formal model of teaching far more creative and exciting. Each generation of my exemplars grow and evolve with every generation of graduates - so we are ALL part of the creative growth of our freedoms, characters, abilities, and souls.

Below is a lovely gallery of snaps taken of the energy exchange you’ll feel when in class with me - whether in person or online. BOTH environments are an exchange of energy that carry value for everyone involved. I know many of you are weary of the virtual classroom experience, but I can tell you - our connection is just as deep, just as strong, and just as healing, because intention and love know no bounds.
